Welcome to Lena Lindahl's English homepage based in Tokyo.
Contact: llindahl@igc.org
I started this homepage in 1999.
I originally made it with only Japanese readers in mind so the information on the English page is very limited. I am now planning to add more information in English.
Last English update: 16 July 2006
★ Interview with Lena Lindahl by Joanna Stefanska and Wolfgang Hafenmayer who travel around the world interviewing people for a book with the title "MyImpact". Read more about their project on the MyImpact page (March 2006).
For 7 years ( 1997-2003 ) I published a Japanese language newsletter called "Sweden Environment News" about environment and energy issues in Sweden and Sweden's efforts to become a sustainable society ("Sustainable Sweden"). It consisted of three A4-size pages and I sent it out to paying subscribers monthly by fax and e-mail from my base in Tokyo. I am now planning to put all the back numbers in pdf format on the Japanese page for the newsletter where some back numbers are already available. The newsletter paved the way for much of my other work such as lectures in Japan and study tours to Sweden.
Sustainable Sweden Tours
Since 2002 I organize Sustainable Sweden Tours for Japanese speakers together with the Sustainable Sweden Association and the company Esam, both based in the northern part of Sweden.
Learning about environmental education in a school.
The Sustainable Sweden Association also organizes tours for English speakers. See their homepage for more information. Here you can see a travel report in English by Mariko Harada who joined the first Sustainable Sweden Tour for Japanese speakers.
The Natural Step for Communities - How Cities and Towns can Change to Sustainable Practices
This is a book written by Torbjorn Lahti, Chairman of the Sustainable Sweden Association, and Sarah James who participated in one of the tours for English speakers. In the book you can read about many good examples. We visit some of them on the tours.
You can order the book from the Canadian publisher, New Society Publishers,
here. If you use a credit card, you can order it directly on the home page.
If you can read Swedish, you can read about the tour concept in a Swedish book, "Det goda exemplets makt" available here. The book also introduces tours organized by my colleagues in Japan, Peo and Satoko Ekberg. We both started organizing tours with a similar concept without knowing about each other. Recently we cooperate while remaining independent. The book is a result of cooperation between our respective tour partners in Sweden. Peo has partners on the island of Gotland in the south of Sweden, while my partners are in Umea, in the north of Sweden.
